Lausanne 1-Day Tour Itinerary
The Swiss love to walk and Lausanne is a city best experienced on foot. Having developed an ability to walk uphill in impractical shoes, the women in Lausanne have earned the reputation of having the best legs in Switzerland!
Having lived in the region for 10 years, Lausanne is one of my favourite cities in the country. So it is with great pleasure that I introduce to you the one-day walking itinerary for Lausanne - a city where only tourists are forgiven for getting around in a comfortable pair of shoes!
Why visit Lausanne?
Lausanne has an understated elegance. It’s a chic, conservative city that often gets overlooked on international tours in favour of other Swiss cities like Zurich or Lucerne. Yet this is the city that is internationally recognized as the capital of the Olympic movement and its local property is sought after by the rich and famous for its location on the shores of beautiful Lake Léman.
It is convenient in its location with boats leaving regularly for France on the other side of the lake and it’s just half an hour from Geneva.
In the summer the city shows why it is known for its art de vivre and there is nothing more delicious than taking in an outdoor concert or a leisurely stroll against one of the most magnificent of backdrops you will ever find. In the winter Lausanne is one of those cities where there is nothing nicer to do than find a warm, cosy café or restaurant to have a drink or dinner.
Why get this Lausanne itinerary?
The itinerary is designed to take you through the main sights of downtown Lausanne. In all, there is about 2 hours of walking and I have tried where possible to include the nearest metro stop!
Dining in the city is an experience in itself and I have tried to choose restaurants that are easy on the wallet.
While Lausanne is quite a conservative city, I’ve also tried to point out it’s more quirky aspects such as the transparent public toilet in the Place du Flon and the time crier who carries out a centuries old tradition every night from 1000pm to 200am. I’ve also tried to organise the walk so that you can take in some of the beautiful views of the city and the Lake Léman.
In the appendix section, I have included other useful information that I hope will reduce some of the surprise of travelling in this beautiful, yet admittedly expensive part of the world.
All that's left to say is, "Bienvenue en Suisse"!

Lausanne Travel Guide Unanchor 1Day Tour Itinerary eBook Vanessa Martin Randin Unanchor com Reviews
Though we didn't precisely follow the itinerary, as we were in Lausanne for several days, not just one, it was very handy for plotting out major highlights. The creperie recommendation was also a great one.
This travel guide give step-by-step directions, along with clear pictures, indicating the route to follow when visiting Lausanne in one day. It is comprehensive, including attractions such as local pubs and restaurants to unique sights and landmarks. It provides additional useful information about local transport and dining fares. A wonderful resource to have at an excellent price!
I had the privilege of travelling to Lausanne for a day and I found this itinerary perfect! By having the picture of the landmark in front of you it really takes the stress off of trying to find the landmark. As well, underneath the pictures are captions that state some history, the price and the recommended duration. The times suggested at each destination were just the right amount. The directions to and from each landmark were spot on! Having all of this information made the day go swimmingly.
I liked how the author suggested local Swiss eateries because it is often difficult to find an authentic place when you are in a new city. The appendix at the back is VERY useful as it states information and the little details you would not typically think about. Travelling in Lausanne with this in hand was fantastic. It was very helpful and definitely made the walking more enjoyable as I was not following a map. The sites this guide takes you to are all different from each other as they are both historic and modern. I would highly recommend purchasing this itinerary if you are planning on visiting Lausanne!
I was only in Switzerland for a short amount of time and not knowing much about the city of Lausanne found this 1 day tour perfect for my needs. Complete with pictures of the city, maps and succinct directions making references to landmarks, it was incredibly easy to follow.
When travelling I'm usually one to do free walking tours of a city but looking back on photos often forget their significance and the history behind them. I'm glad I used the guide however as it included brief snippets of history and links to find extra information which has been great looking back on my travels.
The recommendations for where to stop for lunch or a drink were perfect as I like going to places which the locals frequent as I find them to be more authentic and it's often difficult to know where is best when you're a tourist in a new city.
I thoroughly enjoyed exploring Lausanne with this itinerary, the walk was pleasant and the sights included in the guide gave me a good feel for the city, mixing both the beauty of older sights such as the Cathedrale de Notre Dame with the modern, quirky aspects such as the transparent public toilet.
All in all a brilliant way to see and learn about Lausanne!
Great, and useful.
